The UrbanPromise Mission – “to equip Camden’s children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership.”
Over the last 30 years, UrbanPromise has been transforming the landscape of Camden one youth at a time. They do this through a variety of different programs for underprivileged children, in addition to after-school and summer camps, school education, job training and hands-on learning. Everything they do is to challenge youth to develop and realize their potential!
Numerous organizations have joined forces with UrbanPromise , including Bruce Paparone New Homes and Paparone Insurance, to support the mission at UrbanPromise through volunteering, financial contributions and fundraising efforts. One of the events to raise money is the “Pedal for Promise” bike ride that “Team Paparone” participates in annually each Spring. This past year, the team at Paparone New Homes & Paparone Insurance raised over $7,700 for UrbanPromise.
Paparone’s involvement with UrbanPromise goes back many years. Bruce Paparone, owner of Paparone Insurance and Paparone New Homes, has followed his father’s legacy of volunteering for the program. Samuel J. Paparone was a strong supporter of the school, and in 2006 Paparone New Homes built the 15,000 square foot Samuel J. Paparone Student Center for UrbanPromise in the late Samuel’s memory. The building was funded by donations from Paparone’s friends, family and business associates who contributed their time, materials and money so that this building can be used by future generations of students. The Samuel J. Paparone Student Center hosts classrooms, a computer lab, faculty/administration offices, a meeting room, a lunch room and warm up kitchen.
UrbanPromise was recently featured on ABC’s Nightline with Diane Sawyer. The episode was a follow-up story to an interview from over 10 years ago, featuring several children from UrbanPromise. One of the original children who were interviewed, Josh Williams, now works for Bruce Paparone New Homes, Inc. These individuals featured on Nightline are just a few of the many success stories of UrbanPromise. Watch the interview here –> UrbanPromise Interview with Diane Sawyer on Nightline
